Indeed, Switzerland has signed several international conventions that allow a Swiss national sentenced abroad, but in one of the countries that has signed the convention, to execute his sentence in Switzerland.

The Convention of 21 March 1983 on the transfer of detained persons comes to mind. Thus, if the Swiss national has been convicted and is detained in one of the signatory countries of this convention, he or she may request to be transferred to Switzerland to serve his or her sentence, provided that certain other conditions are met. Switzerland has also signedother bilateral agreements on the transfer of sentenced persons with the following countries: Barbados, the Republic of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Kosovo, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Paraguay and the Republic of Peru. Thus, if the convicted person of Swiss nationality is detained in one of these countries, he or she may also request a transfer to Switzerland.
